"Pat" Brown
Edmund G. "Pat" Brown was born in San Francisco, California on April 21st, 1905. He was one out of four children from his parents Ida and Edmund Brown. Pat Brown was always interested in public speaking. At his high school, Lowell High, he was the debate champion as a member of the Lowell Forensic Society. After he graduated, instead of going straight to full-time college, he worked at his father's cigar store. Then he began to work for an attorney names Milton Schmitt. While he was working, he took night classes and earned his Bachelors of Law degree from San Francisco Law School in the spring of 1927.
In 1928 he ran for State Assembly as a Republican Party candidate but lost. After that, he moved to the Democratic Party in 1934. This was the same time as the Great Depression. This major event in history made him lose confidence in the Republican Party. He slowly became more involved in party activities and 4 years after his defeat in 1939 against Matthew Brady, he ran for more titles but kept losing. Until the position for district attorney opened up.
As district attorney of San Francisco, he was elected as a General Attorney for California in 1950. After this, Pat ran twice for President in 1960 and 1964. His campaign consisted of posters, bumper stickers, buttons and his name was even founded on whiskey bottles. This would help spread the word that he was running for President or Governor. His presidential campaign ended after his second lost and he ended up running for Governor instead. He was elected in 1959 and ended his term in 1967 for the Democratic Party. Sadly he had recently passed away in 1996 on February 16th, in Beverly Hills California. Many people were very distraught to see this man go. Most people wrote "Bye Bye Brown" saying their goodbyes to him and mourning his death.
