Key Women Award

Support Letter

Dave Tunno Nomination

Handwritten List by Jane Tolmach

The Key Women Award recognizes women within the community and all the accomplishments they've made either over a small or long period of time. This award uplifted and gave recognition to women working in political campaigns, shined the light on the women behind the scenes pulling all the strings. This gave women a chance to be recognized for their hard work behind the scenes of major campaigns. Many campaign nominees would submit women that were apart of their campaigns and send it out to the officials. Jane Tolmach would send out support letters and get nominees back. Then the officials would narrow the women down by determining who made the most impact in their communities and overall as well. They would then send out formal invitations to the ceremony and receive the key award. Jane Tolmach was more than qualified to nominate women and if it were her choice I'm sure they'd all received recognition because of they sure as hell deserve it. Women were thought of as a minority for as long as anyone could remember. Recall that the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified until 1920 which granted American women the right to vote—a right known as woman suffrage. At the time the U.S. was founded, its female citizens did not share all of the same rights as men, including the right to vote. Jane and this award were determined to change that. Jane Tolmach sought to ease tensions between police and minority communities in Oxnard, and battled for causes she considered critical to the community throughout her life - and that made her a key woman. This award was made to exalt women all over the country that have played a huge role in their communities or political campaigns. For example, Hillary Clinton played a huge roll in her husbands, Bill Clinton's, campaign. She not only kept track and critiqued his speech tactics, but she was key in keeping up his public standards and reputations in order to get him two terms in office as President of the United States of America. In the image above it shows how a nomination letter would be formed in this case more than one woman was nominated.
