The Jane Tolmach Collection
Since the growth of women’s political movement, the role of women in politics has been elevated by many motivated individuals. The importance of studying this growth is crucial to see how far women have come and how individuals have influenced this change.
As the first female mayor of the City of Oxnard, Jane Tolmach became highly influential from local positions held within the community to her efforts in the California Democratic Party and the Democratic National Convention. To analyze this, we are utilizing The Jane Tolmach Collection donated to student research by The Tolmach Family at the California State University Islands John Spoor Broome Library Archives to focus on books, articles, political ephemera, documents, and memorabilia that illustrate the impacts of her efforts.
The goal of this exhibit is to show how Jane has helped pave the way for women in politics today through her community contributions and her passion for political activism.
