My research is focused on American political institutions, primarily Congress. I am co-author and co-editor of several books. My research approach involves multiple methodologies–both quantitative and qualitative–relying heavily on archival sources. I firmly believe that archival sources contain data of considerable interest to political scientists but remain woefully underused. My archival work has involved travel to dozens of collections across the country.
